For the last two weeks the children in Junior Infants have been working on the theme of the doctor’s surgery. They enjoyed many activities. Role-play was so popular that they had two weeks of fun setting up surgeries, reception areas and waiting rooms and taking it in turns to be the different characters. For Games with rules they enjoyed playing operation and also playing two doctor apps on the iPads and Surfaces. They pretended to be doctors writing prescriptions and receptionists writing telephone messages. Their vocabulary was enriched during these activities as the used all the new words we covered in our Oral language lesson when we discussed doctors’ instruments, medicines, bandages and even studied an x-ray.
