Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday

We have had a very busy two days learning about Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday from Emer and Caoimhe.  Did you know that Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday and that it comes from France?  Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras is the last day before the fast time of Lent.  People all over t

he world celebrate it in many different ways.  In Nice there are parades, in New Orleans there is a carnival and in Ireland we eat pancakes!

During Maths class we practised our numbers before playing Mardi Gras bingo.  Here are some photos of us busy at work!

Today we made Mardi Gras masks using the very special colours: purple, green and gold.
In some countries like Ireland we learned that the people celebrate by having pancakes, because of this Shrove Tuesday has become know as Pancake Tuesday.  Julia’s Mum came in and made pancakes with us today. We went into the staffroom in pairs, helped put the mixture on the pan, flipped our pancake and added our topping.  They were delicious-thank you Patrycja!
